What is an MSDS?

An MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) is a document designed to provide safety information about any hazardous components contained in any product. The actual MSDS form varies from country to country but all are designed to provide the information in an easy to read format. Every product or substance regardless of the hazard level should have an MSDS that is typically authored and provided by the manufacturer.

An MSDS includes information related to potentially harmful effects of any hazardous ingredients, safe handling practices, storage and spill handling. The MSDS form is structured into sections and should include categories such as: hazardous chemical identity, physical and health hazards, reactivity, routes of exposure, first aid, safe handling, spill procedures and emergency contact information.
